Welcome to my blog! I document my experiences in travel including drinks, fashion, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Recently, someone mentioned to me that I had a type-o on my blog intro which states that I have visited all 5 continents. This person mentioned that I have visited 6 out of the 7 and I should make that correction. Well, not necessarily!

Most countries around the world teach geography much differently than what they do in the U.S. My case in point, I grew up in Venezuela where they teach you that there are five continents which are the following: Africa, The Americas (N. America, C. America, and S. America), Asia, Australia, and Europe. So technically, per what I was taught in Venezuela, I have been to all of the world's continents. And from what I have learn the same is taught in Spain and Ecuador (any other countries?).

But once I moved to the U.S., I was taught that there are seven continents: Antarctica, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. So in the midst of this "Arroz con Mango" I have decided to Google search it and see what comes up. The first site I went to was Nations Online and they state the definition of a continent which is:

The term continent is used to differentiate between the various large areas of the earth into which the land surface is divided (i.e. countries/states).

And they also mention that there are 6 continents: Africa, Americas, Asia, Australia and Oceania, Europe and Antarctica. Reading this made me even more confused...are there 5, 6 or 7 continents? I decided that Wikipedia will answer this tough question..and guess what? they did! And the best way to understand why there are so many answers as to what the correct number is, can be seen in the graphic below:

So there you have it dear readers....there is no right answer to this question but if you are a history lover you will say that the correct answer is based on the rings of the Olympic symbol which it is said to stand for all 5 continents.

Till the next unresolved travel or geography problem!
