Hi.

Welcome to my blog! I document my experiences in travel including drinks, fashion, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King

If we are to have peace on earth, our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional. Our loyalties must transcend our race, our tribe, our class, and our nation; and this means we must develop a world perspective. - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Georgia, 1967

As I walked through the Martin Luther King memorial in Washington D.C. You can read all of his famous quotes from the Civil Rights movement. The quote above was the one that connected with me the most.

This memorial which inaugurated today, August 28th, 2011, (48 years after the famous march on Washington for Jobs and Freedom), was brought forth by the members of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and completed under the leadership of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation.

It is a breathtaking site. The last time I was so moved by a monument was when I was in Cairo last year. It is amazing to see the amount of detail that this monument has. "It's beautiful" is the word you keep on hearing from all the tourists and locals that are gathering around the monument.

The monument is located to the south of The Mall, about a 10 min walk from Lincoln Memorial. It is so peaceful to sit here and enjoy the view of The Tidal Basin and see across the pond the Jefferson Memorial. Great spot to come enjoy the view, the history, and people watch.

If you live in D.C. or looking to take a trip to the capital, add the MLK Memorial to your list of must-see spots...(or as the park ranger said to me: "We here in D.C. call it the Martin Luther King Memorial).

Till the next travel adventure, I leave you with a few pics of this historical monument.
