2012 "Destino: Latinoameríca" Video Contest

Adelante! Fund and United Airlines announced their second annual 2012: "Destino: Latinoamerica" Video Contest.  For those of you who do not know about Adelante! Fund, here is a brief description that I picked up from their website: The Adelante! Fund is designed to address the educational needs of the growing Hispanic population.

Through this partnership with United Airlines they are offering the opportunity for Hispanic undergrads (Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) to submit a three to five minute video in either English or Spanish (maybe even some Spanglish?) highlighting five reasons why they should be chosen to visit one of the many Latin American or Caribbean countries that United flies to.

Last year, I followed this story and had a chance to interview the winner Jamila Hull from New Mexico State University

1.    Where did you end up going thanks to your win? My family and I traveled to Grand Cayman in the Caribbean.
2.     What did you learn about your experience during this trip and what tips do you give to others heading there? I learned that Cayman Islanders are some of the nicest people in the world, from all over the world. The Cayman Islands have very good policies about opening their harbors to people from other countries seeking work. While there, we met several people from places such as Jamaica, the Philippines, and Central and South America. It is a very diverse place, and I was very excited to be able to share and explore it with my family. If you are planning to travel to the Cayman Islands, I suggest stocking up on as much jerk chicken and local dishes as you have the opportunity to try.
3.    What tips do you give to those applying to this contest? Be honest and be creative. Your desire to travel will show in your submission. Don’t enter a submission just for yourself; do it for the opportunity to take your parents on a well-deserved adventure.
4.    If you could do this program again, where would you go? I would really like to travel to Guatemala to see Tikal.
5.    What other countries in Latinoamerica are you looking to explore? Argentina—for the tango and milongas!

You can learn more about this opportunity through Adelante's Facebook page and good luck to all those that apply!
