Top Eco-Friendly Cities

Making a decision to move to a new city requires certain considerations. When eco-friendly living is a concern, recognizing the best cities for an environmentally friendly atmosphere will make it easier to settle down and enjoy the lifestyle.

Phoenix is one of the top cities for eco-friendly programs that are available. According to Downtowndevil.com, Phoenix is considering the launch of a bicycle-sharing program.

The program is designed to provide a self-sustaining and environmentally friendly way to improve transportation within the city. Riding a bicycle is not always possible in Phoenix because of high temperatures and far distances. Car dealerships like VW Scottsdale are selling many eco-friendly vehicles such as the VW Golf TDI and Jetta TDI, as the concern for the environment has helped encourage residents to buy more fuel-efficient modes of transportation.
According to Motortorque.com, the Hyundai IX35 is a zero-emissions fuel cell that will become available to the market.

San Francisco
San Francisco is among the top cities for environmentally friendly living. Forbes rated San Francisco the top city for green jobs. The city encourages the use of public transportation, bicycles and carpooling to cut back on emissions. Due to the effort to reduce emissions, San Francisco is seeing positive changes when it relates to environmentally friendly living.

According to NationalGeographic.com, San Francisco is the city with the lowest levels of greenhouse gas per capita of any large city. Efforts to reduce the emissions in the city have paid off to rank it first when it comes to total emissions per person.

New York
While New York is one of the largest cities in the world, the emissions abatement efforts in and around the city have resulted in major changes. NationalGeographic.com states that New York follows closely behind San Francisco when it comes to emissions abatement. The city has a low level of emissions when compared to the population.

The city has excellent public transportation and is likely to see further improvements as efforts continue in emissions abatement and green living.

Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. is one of the best cities for energy-saving efforts and it is among the top cities in a few different categories. According NationalGeographic.com, Washington D.C. comes in second place when it comes to the number of energy star buildings in the city. Although the number of buildings came in second, newer construction projects are focusing on energy-conservation efforts and the city is likely to continue making improvements.

Although the city came in fourth behind Houston, Austin and Dallas for alternative and green sources of power, it was among the top cities to purchase and use wind-power for energy.

As a result of the large number of energy-star buildings and the large amount of wind power that is used by the city, Washington D.C. is one of the best cities for environmental friendly lifestyles. Finding ways to cut back on energy, use renewable resources and get involved in efforts to improve the environment is easy in the area.

Living in an environment that encourages eco-friendly efforts can make it easier to make changes for the future.
